Reynolds & Bauhm was engaged solely to prepare a tunnel dewatering discharge consent application and the supporting discharge and dilution calculations — documentation only, no equipment supplied.
A tunnelling contractor needed a discharge consent to release treated dewatering water to a watercourse and sewer, requiring discharge-rate, dilution and suspended-solids load calculations it did not have in-house.
Construction-discharge documentation has to be technically defensible and backed by sound engineering calculations — discharge rates, water balances, dilution and treatment-capacity sizing — aligned to the exact standard the regulator applies. A weak or unsupported submission means delay, refusal or onerous conditions that stall the tunnelling works. Reynolds & Bauhm was engaged purely to prepare that documentation and the supporting calculations — not to design or supply equipment.
Reynolds & Bauhm was engaged on a documentation-and-calculations basis. We did not design, build or supply any treatment plant — our deliverable was the regulator-ready compliance package and the engineering calculations behind it. The work comprised:
This was a compliance and calculations service: Reynolds & Bauhm prepared the submission, the supporting evidence and the engineering calculations on behalf of the contractor. Equipment design and construction were outside our scope. A representative example of how we deliver standalone regulatory documentation for a metro & tunnelling project.
We reviewed the dewatering and ground-water data, the construction programme and the receiving-environment against the governing standard, then built the engineering case: a construction water balance, peak dewatering / discharge-rate calculations with a storm allowance, receiving-water dilution and impact calculations, and treatment / settlement sizing calculations demonstrating the discharge limits can be met. These were assembled into a structured submission written to the regulator’s template, every figure cross-referenced to its calculation, and we supported the contractor through the regulator’s queries to determination.
| Deliverable | Status |
|---|---|
| Discharge consent | Granted |
| Compliance calculations | Provided & accepted |
| Equipment supplied by R&B | None — documentation only |
The outcome was a complete, defensible compliance package — documents and calculations — the contractor could submit with confidence, delivered independently of any equipment supply so the advice carried no commercial bias toward a particular technology.
Water balance, discharge-rate and sizing calculations make the submission defensible, not just descriptive.
Documentation-and-calculations only means the case is led by the regulation, not by selling equipment.
Prepared to the regulator’s template and the governing code, minimising queries and delay.
We handle the regulator’s technical queries through to a granted consent or permit.
Reynolds & Bauhm prepares construction discharge consent applications, environmental permit dossiers and the supporting engineering calculations — water balances, discharge-rate, dilution and treatment-sizing calculations — as a standalone service, independent of any equipment supply.
