Inclined Plate Clarification Principle
LAMELLA separators use a series of inclined plates (lamellae) to dramatically increase the effective settling area within a compact footprint. As water flows upward between the plates, suspended solids settle on the plate surfaces and slide down into a sludge collection hopper.
Wastewater enters the separator and is distributed evenly across the width of the unit. Flow is directed upward into the lamella plate packages.
As water flows upward between the inclined plates (typically at 55-60°), suspended solids settle onto the plate surfaces. The inclined angle allows solids to slide down into the sludge hopper.
Clarified water exits through collection troughs at the top of the unit. The multi-stream design ensures even flow distribution and consistent effluent quality.
Settled solids collect in the sludge hopper at the bottom and are removed via sludge pump or gravity discharge for further dewatering or disposal.
Three Design Options
Complete separator unit with conical sludge hopper bottom. Ideal for new installations where a complete clarification system is required.
Cylindrical bottom configuration with integrated sludge scraper mechanism. Suitable for applications requiring mechanical sludge collection.
Lamella plate packages engineered for installation in existing tanks or concrete basins. Ideal for upgrading existing clarification capacity.
Why Choose LAMELLA
| Parameter | Conventional Tank | LAMELLA Separator |
|---|---|---|
| Footprint | 100% | 10% (90% reduction) |
| Capital Cost | 100% | 50% (50% reduction) |
| Installation Time | Weeks | Days |
| Civil Works | Extensive | Minimal |
| Operating Cost | Higher | Lower |
90% reduction in footprint compared to conventional clarifiers of equal capacity. Ideal for sites with limited space.
50% reduction in capital costs due to smaller tankage requirements and reduced civil works.
Pre-fabricated units install in days rather than weeks, minimising plant downtime during upgrades.
Up to 90% TSS removal with hydraulic loading rates up to 2.5 m³/m²/hr, exceeding conventional clarifier performance.
Where LAMELLA Excels
Clarification of industrial wastewater prior to advanced biological treatment or discharge for food processing, manufacturing, and chemical industries.
Post-coagulation clarification for potable water production, removing flocculated solids after chemical conditioning and treatment.
Tertiary clarification for recycled water applications, providing high-quality effluent for non-potable reuse.
SDI reduction for reverse osmosis systems, protecting membranes and extending operational life.
SCADA Integration Available
Our LAMELLA separators can be integrated with SCADA for automated sludge removal, inlet flow monitoring, and effluent quality tracking. Optimise sludge discharge cycles and monitor clarifier performance from a centralised interface.
