Washing tunnel boring machines, vehicles and plant produces water laden with oils, greases, fine solids and detergents. Treating and recycling it protects the environment and cuts the site water demand.
Specialised water treatment for TBM slurry, groundwater and construction runoff on underground projects.
Dissolved air flotation for oil, grease and fine-solids removal from equipment washdown water.
Screw and belt presses producing stackable cake from excavated spoil and treatment sludge.
Here we treat oily, detergent-laden washdown water from plant, wheel-wash and machinery cleaning, using coalescing separation and DAF, then recycle it. It is shown because washdown water carries the FOG and hydrocarbons that fail an oil consent and foul downstream stages if left untreated. A coalescing oil-water separator strips the bulk free oil, and dissolved air flotation removes the emulsified fraction and fine solids that simple separation leaves behind. The cleaned water is recirculated to the wheel-wash and washdown bays, cutting mains demand and shrinking the volume that must ultimately be treated for discharge.
Lubricants and fuels appear as both free films and detergent-stabilised emulsions, the latter resisting simple gravity separation.
Washdown carries abrasive fines and grit that foul pumps and downstream equipment if not removed early.
To recycle for wheel-wash and washdown, the treated water must be low in oil, solids and odour to protect equipment and operators.
Interceptors remove the bulk free oil and settleable grit before the finer treatment stages.
Coagulated DAF lifts emulsified oil and fine solids on micro-bubbles, achieving low residual oil-in-water.
Media or carbon polishing prepares the clarified water for storage and reuse in wheel-wash circuits.
Pre-assembled DAF plants for rapid deployment and oil/solids removal on constrained sites.
Coalescing plate interceptors as robust pre-treatment ahead of the DAF.
