Leak detection, containment bunds, ventilation and emergency shutdown engineered into every dosing system — safe storage, handling and injection of corrosive and reactive chemicals to UK regulations.
Dosing systems store and move corrosive, reactive and sometimes flammable reagents, often on unmanned sites. Safety has to be engineered in — secondary containment, leak detection, ventilation and emergency shutdown — not left to operating procedure. We design every system to the relevant UK regulations (DSEAR, COSHH and, where needed, ATEX) so that a spill, leak or wrong delivery is contained and made safe automatically.
Safety Engineered Into the System
Protection is layered. Bunded storage holds 110% of the largest vessel; leak detection in the bund and pump area raises an alarm and can trip the dose; ventilation clears vapour from enclosed plant rooms; and emergency shutdown isolates pumps and storage at the press of a button. Fill points are keyed and labelled to prevent cross-contamination, and the whole arrangement is documented for COSHH and DSEAR assessment.
Bunds sized to 110% of the largest vessel catch any spill or tank failure.
Bund and floor sensors raise alarms and can trip dosing on a detected leak.
Forced or natural ventilation clears vapour from enclosed dosing rooms.
One action isolates pumps and storage and brings the system to a safe state.
What Dosing Safety Has to Prevent
Chemical dosing carries real hazards. Each is addressed by a specific engineered measure, not by signage alone.
Acid and hypochlorite together release chlorine gas — segregated bunds and keyed fills prevent it.
Bunding, overfill alarms and self-bunded tanks contain releases before they reach drains.
Where reagents demand it, ATEX-rated, ventilated and zoned equipment is used.
Layers of Protection
Bunded or self-bunded storage holds 110% of the largest vessel.
Leak, level and overfill sensors detect a release early.
Enclosed plant rooms are ventilated to clear vapour.
Emergency stops and interlocks isolate pumps and storage safely.
Data sheets, P&IDs and operating procedures support audit and training.
How each hazard is contained
| Hazard | Engineered safeguard | Backup |
|---|---|---|
| Tank failure / spill | 110% bund or self-bunded tank | Leak detection + alarm |
| Overfill | High-level alarm + fill cut-off | Bund containment |
| Incompatible mixing | Segregated bunds, keyed fills | Labelling + procedure |
| Vapour build-up | Ventilation | Gas detection |
| Uncontrolled release | Emergency shutdown / interlock | Manual isolation |
