Variation Dampening

Equalization tanks store wastewater during peak flow periods and release it during low-flow periods, effectively averaging out both flow rate and pollutant concentration variations. This protects downstream advanced biological treatment systems from shock loads and ensures consistent operating conditions.

Equalization is a critical first step in wastewater treatment plant design. By dampening diurnal flow variations and industrial discharge peaks, equalization tanks prevent hydraulic and organic overloading of biological reactors, improve chemical dosing efficiency, and reduce the size requirements for downstream treatment units.
