System Equilibrium & Loading Control

Hydraulic Balance

Balance tanks maintain hydraulic equilibrium in process systems by receiving variable inflows and discharging at controlled rates. This prevents overloading of downstream treatment units, maintains consistent hydraulic retention times, and ensures stable process performance regardless of upstream flow variations.

Balance tanks are critical components in wastewater treatment and process systems where hydraulic loading must be controlled. Unlike buffer tanks that focus on flow equalization, balance tanks are specifically designed to maintain a target discharge rate, using level control to modulate outflow pumps and maintain system equilibrium.

Important Notes:

  • All dimensions are internal (usable) dimensions
  • Volumes calculated using rectangular prism formula: L × W × H
  • Actual working capacity typically 90-95% of total volume
  • Containerised tanks engineered for ISO container compatibility (width ≤ 2,400mm)
  • Free-standing tanks can be customised beyond standard dimensions
  • Wall thickness varies based on material, pressure, and chemical compatibility
