Self-cleaning automatic filters — a cylindrical fine screen cleaned in place by a motorised suction scanner or backwash arm, typically protecting the process downstream of the intake without manual cleaning.
Intake Screening for Water & Desalination Plants
A self-cleaning filter houses a cylindrical fine screen cleaned continuously in place by a motorised suction scanner or backwash arm, ejecting concentrated debris while the filter stays online. Usually fitted on the pump-discharge (post-intake) side rather than the raw intake, it protects DAF, media filters, heat exchangers and nozzles from intermittent solids with minimal water loss and no manual intervention.
In-place suction-scanner cleaning
A scanner traverses the element, vacuuming debris off the screen.
Rotating arm focuses a reverse flow to clear the mesh.
Wedge-wire or mesh, 10–3000 µm to suit the duty.
Cleaning starts on differential pressure or timer.
Only a small purge is discharged each cycle.
Compact skids in 316L or duplex for seawater.
| Parameter | Typical | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Screen rating | 10–3000 µm | Duty-dependent |
| Cleaning | Suction scanner / arm | In place, online |
| Trigger | ΔP or timer | Automatic |
| Position | Post-intake / pump discharge | Protects downstream process |
| Body | 316L / duplex | Seawater service |
