Effluent Characteristics

Rendering facilities process animal by-products at elevated temperatures (90-140°C) generating high-strength condensate wastewater with BOD typically 5,000-30,000 mg/L. The effluent contains proteins, fats, blood solids, and volatile organic compounds with highly variable flow rates depending on processing campaigns.
