Textile Dye House Effluent Decolorization

This is an illustrative scenario showing how Reynolds & Bauhm equipment can be configured for this application. Every site has unique requirements — contact us for a solution tailored to your specific wastewater characteristics.

Process Requirements & Constraints

Woven fabric dye house discharging 600 m3/day of reactive dye wastewater with colour 1,500 Pt-Co units, COD 3,200 mg/L, BOD 1,100 mg/L, and sulphide 45 mg/L. Must meet sewer discharge limits of colour <100 Pt-Co, COD <500 mg/L, and eliminate sulphide odour.

Treatment Approach

Step-by-step process configuration from raw wastewater to compliant discharge.

01

Screening & Equalization

0.5 mm rotary screen removes fibre and lint. 18-hour equalization with automated pH adjustment to 7.0. Flow and load balancing between dyeing batches.

02

Coagulation-Flocculation

Ferric chloride (200 mg/L) and anionic PAM dosed via rapid mix and flocculation chambers. Colour reduced to 400 Pt-Co. Dye molecules destabilised and aggregated for flotation removal.

03

DAF Colour Removal

Dissolved air flotation removes coagulated dye particles as float sludge. Surface skimmer transfers coloured float to thickening tank. DAF effluent colour <150 Pt-Co, TSS <40 mg/L.

04

Ozonation decolourisation

Ozone generator producing 1.5 kg O3/h contacts DAF effluent in 15-minute reaction column. Residual colour destroyed by direct ozone oxidation. Final colour <50 Pt-Co. Sulphide oxidised to sulphate eliminating odour.

05

Final Polishing

Biological sand filter provides final COD polishing from 350 to 180 mg/L. Backwash wastewater returned to equalization. Effluent meets all sewer discharge parameters consistently.
